Headquartered in London with bases in Europe and the Middle East, we serve our clients through our passionate and pioneering international team. As founders of The Extreme Sports Channel, operating for over 25 years, and with the backing of Kleinwort Hambros and Soc Gen banks EXTREME is the go-to brand for authentic activation across action and adventure sports.

As part of our sustainability efforts, we have launched The Extreme Hangout, a global impact platform, and aligned with five key United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. We have also joined Planet Mark to measure our impact, committed to 1% For The Planet to give back and are a lead member of the UN’s Sports for Climate Action initiative to raise awareness.

Job Description

Conference Marketing Manager



Inspired by our love of the outdoors, adventure sports and our passion to protect the planet, Extreme International established The Extreme Hangout as an events sustainability impact platform to give young people a voice around climate issues and drive environmental action.

Launched in 2021 The Extreme Hangout became a leading fringe event at COP26 in Glasgow. We took over a repurposed ferry on the River Clyde, created a hub and delivered 11 days of inspiring conferences and evening entertainment. Over 6000 people came to hear and be motivated by more than 200 incredible speakers from Bear Grylls to Lily Cole, all of which delivered 5 million video impressions off the live stream and video on demand service.

The Extreme Hangout has three elements we are building out which are:


  1. The Extreme Hangout at COP - Our major 8-to-10-day annual event held at COP every year, live streamed globally.

  2. The Extreme Hangout local series is being rolled out globally and set to run in city, beach, and mountain locations around the world in partnership with local organisers, with the objective to connect, engage and amplify local voices and drive local action. With over 68 groups already expressing interest and some dates set this is positioned to grow very fast.

  3. The Extreme Hangout video and voice podcast series for year-round engagement and available on multiple platforms.




UAE will host the 28th UN Climate Change Conference of the Parties (COP28) in Dubai on 30 Nov to 12 Dec 2023.The COP28 summit will bring global leaders and organisations together to accelerate action towards the goal of the Paris Agreement and the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change.

Young changemakers want their voices heard and have little participation in the formal proceedings. EXTREME has made it its mission to give them a seat at the table and a platform for their voice to be heard.

From 3rd – 12th December 2023, some of the world’s leading organisations & individuals will join us to inspire & drive debate, discussion & action. This is jointly managed & curated with sponsors, NGOs, and supporters.


The Extreme Hangout local series


With the EXTREME Hangout, we want to engage and inspire young people, harness the power of sport, champion actions worth taking, work collaboratively with and connect amazing partners who are thinking outside the box and amplify the volume of all doing climate action work. With this initiative we are looking to find the gears to turn the cogs to amplify the volume to drive massive behavioural change. Based on this and building on the success at Glasgow and Egypt we have just onboarded PWC as a global partner and are now rolling out this ambitious programme with the goal to deliver 50 local impact events in 50 locations over the next 3 years.


About The Role

We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated conference Marketing Manager for The Extreme Hangout annual event at COP and the global Hangout series. As the Conference Marketing Manager, you will play a crucial role in promoting and positioning the conferences as a must-attend experience for participants, sponsors, and stakeholders. The ideal candidate possesses a strong passion for environmental sustainability and has a proven track record in conference marketing, brand management, and digital marketing strategies.


Key Responsibilities:


  • Marketing Strategy Development: Develop and implement comprehensive marketing strategies to promote The Extreme Hangout conference, ensuring maximum attendance, sponsorships, and successful involvement of key stakeholders.

  • Brand Building: Design and execute branding initiatives, including website design, marketing collaterals, and overall visual identity, effectively conveying the conference's mission and environmental sustainability values.

  • Digital Marketing: Oversee digital marketing efforts to generate awareness and engagement across various online platforms, including social media, email campaigns, and online advertising. Track and measure the impact of digital initiatives and SEO strategies.

  • Stakeholder Engagement: Collaborate with internal teams, external vendors, and strategic partners in developing effective promotional campaigns and securing sponsorships, ensuring alignment with the event's mission and objectives.

  • Conference Promotion: Develop and implement targeted promotional plans, including media partnerships, influencer collaborations, and strategic alliances, to maximize conference awareness and reach the target audience.

  • Content Creation: Develop engaging and persuasive content for all marketing channels, including website, social media, press releases, and email campaigns, to effectively communicate the conference's unique selling points and drive participation.

  • Data Analysis and Reporting: Track and analyse marketing campaign performance, conference attendance, and participant demographics, providing regular reports and insights to refine strategies and tactics for future events.

  • Budget Management: Develop and manage the conference marketing budget efficiently, allocating resources effectively, and optimizing ROI.

  • Conference Day Support: Collaborate with the conference management team to ensure seamless execution of marketing-related initiatives during the conference, such as on-site branding and promotional activities.


Desired Qualifications, Experience and Skills:


  • Bachelor’s degree in marketing, Communications, or relevant field.

  • Proven experience (minimum 3 years) in conference marketing, preferably related to environmental sustainability initiatives.

  • Strong knowledge and understanding of environmental sustainability concepts, practices, and industry trends.

  • Demonstrated ability to develop and execute comprehensive marketing strategies, incorporating digital marketing elements.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with a flair for persuasive content creation.

  • Proficiency in using various digital marketing tools, including email marketing platforms, social media management tools, and website content management systems.

  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret data and generate actionable insights.

  • Exceptional project management and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.

  • Highly self-motivated, resourceful, and results-oriented, with excellent problem-solving skills.
